We believe that everyone is created with different gifts and talents, given by God. With the School of Design, we want to equip the ones that want to have an influence in the area of visual communication and give them a chance to further develop themselves, but also help them discover and take their place in the missionary call.

The ‘School of Design’ is an intensive school of 4 months that equips missionaries in the area of communications, in order to serve projects and missionaries with the materials they create. Jonathan leads this school here at this Base, and this school is part of the courses given by the University of the Nations, YWAM’s University.

During the School of Design we teach the students the Biblical foundations for creating Design projects. Together we discover how God as a Designer created the Earth and which lessons and inspiration we can take from that. How does God communicate in His Word en wat does that say about His character and how can this help us to communicate our message in an good and honest way.

The school is a very practical one. Weekly the students will receive practical assignments where they can apply what they have learnt in class. We have several guest speakers that teach and inspire from their own experiences. The students learn to work with several graphic programs and learn to evaluate the work of their colleagues and their own. The ‘School of Design’ is a school where we help the students to discover what their talents and gifts are and how they can use them to serve others.

Outreach

We see a great need inside and outside of Brazil when it comes to missionary organisations and the communication of their work. We believe that we, with the School of Design, have a great opportunity to be a blessing in this and that we can equip and inspire many.

After the theoretical fase of the school the students will have the chance to apply all their newly acquired skills. They will be travelling in teams and offer support to different missionary projects. The students will create materials depending on the needs of the project they will be travelling to: websites, folders, video’s, photo’s, etc.

The students will also be giving workshops to the staff workers so they can teach and inspire other missionaries to communicate better through social media and other channels, in order to bring their work and needs to the attention of others.  These outreaches are the perfect chance for the students to have some experience as communicators in missions. These trips show very well what the heart of the ‘School of Design is: “Create to serve”
